Arcus offers the ability to make remote access connections to deployed systems through your browser. You can connect using:
- Secure Shell (SSH) over port 22
- Remote Console (VNC) over port 5902
- Remote Desktop (RDP) over port 3389
Remote Access connections are secure and encrypted using industry standard SSL protocol and authenticated through your Arcus login session, including your project, roles and permissions.
How to Connect
- Log in to Arcus
- Select the Project using the drop-down menu at the top-right
- From the Main Navigation menu, click Runs
- Under My Runs or Browse, select an “Available” Run.
- On the Run page, there will be a card for each virtual or physical host. Each card will have a connection button that, when clicked, will display all available Remote Access options for the system. If there is no Remote Access button, Remote Access may be disabled in your Cloudspace, contact your Cloudspace Admin to resolve.
- To retrieve credentials, click on the card for the host you’d like to connect to, this will open the details page for the host. On the left-side of the page under Your Credentials, click the Show button to retrieve your credentials. Note, this page reflects credentials set when the Run was initially launched, and would not reflect changes made in assets or manually. See this article for additional information about the custom user and password.
- Click on the Remote Access Connection button, the credentials you entered when creating the deployment run will automatically be transferred into the session but you can always log in as a different user by selecting custom connection. Keep an eye out for a pop-up that may need to be allowed.
Note: See this troubleshooting article if you have issues connecting.
Connecting to a VNC Remote Access Session
- Log in to Arcus
- Select the Project using the drop-down menu at the top-right
- From the Main Navigation menu, click Runs
- Under My Runs or Browse, select an “Available” Run.
- On the Run page, there will be a card for each virtual or physical host. Each card will have a connection button that, when clicked, will display all available Remote Access options for the system. If there is no Remote Access button, Remote Access may be disabled in your Cloudspace, contact your Cloudspace Admin to resolve.
Remote Access-based file transfer is now supported when connecting to your Host using a VNC Remote Access Connection. As with RDP and SSH Remote Access, users are now able to upload and download files using the “Drag-and-Drop” method, the Remote Access sidebar, or through the On-screen Clipboard as described in this KB article.
Note: If you connect to your remote Host using credentials that aren’t managed by the Arcus Host provisioning process, you’ll need to define a custom connection with the correct credentials and use that definition to access your Host.
Connect to a Windows Domain Account
You may configure an Active Directory with Windows Domain accounts within your cloudspace. This can be configured easily using existing software assets in the library. If you’d like to Remote Access a Windows host using a domain account, when prompted you login credentials:
- For the username, enter
USERNAME@DOMAIN
orUSERNAME@COMPUTER_NAME
- For password, enter the Windows domain account user’s password (not the one on the details page)
To connect as the local administrator account:
- For the username, enter:
administrator@COMPUTER_NAME
- For the password, use the same password created when the run was launched. Click here if you need to retrieve credentials.
Connect to a Host created from an Appliance
Appliances are pre-configured snapshots of a VM, and therefore already have pre-configured credentials associated with them. Please check the Help section on the Appliance to retrieve the credentials.
Additional Notes
- For security reasons, your remote sessions will close when you log out of Arcus. You will be reminded to stay logged in.
- Multiple remote access windows or tabs can be opened simultaneously. However, this is limited by your browser’s settings for number of sessions and connections. In order to optimize performance, it is recommended to have no more than three windows or tabs open at a time.
- This method of access is not compatible with Internet Explorer 8. The feature is also unavailable in any browser that does not support the canvas element.
*The host name and DR number is displayed in the Dashboard which when clicked can link you to your DR’s page where you can remote access in if enabled.
Favorite Remote Access Connection
You can add a remote access connection to your CollabTools dashboard for easy access. To do this you have to have an established connection. It is recommended that you name the connection so it is distinguishable. When you go back to reconnect, there is a star icon on the right side to add it to your favorites. Click that and it will now be on your dashboard.
To delete a favorited connection you can go to your Profile & Account section at the top-right of the page. Scroll to the bottom and you will see your favorited connection and a delete option on the right.
