Adjusting RAM, CPU, and Boot Disk
There may come a time when you need to update the RAM, CPU or Boot Disk on your systems to free up resources, improve system performance, or simply plan for the future. Through Arcus it is very easy to make changes quickly. There are likely three timeframes in which you might want to make these changes: during system design, while launching, and after a deployment run is reserved.
Set RAM, CPU, and Boot Disk in the System Design
In the second step of creating a new system design you can set a minimum requirement for RAM, CPU and Boot disk. These settings will be used as minimum requirements for runs created from this system design.
Edit RAM, CPU, and Boot Disk for an existing System Design
Once your system is created, you can go back and change the values again at any time by choosing your system and by clicking the “Edit Asset” button at the top, and repeating the same steps as above. Any adjustments are applied on the next run using that system.
Launch Time
When launching a system, scenario, or deployment, values for RAM, CPU, and Boot Disk default to those specified in the system design. You can edit these on the Configure Resources step of the launch process. Adjustments here are only applied for this run, and are not saved for future runs. This also does NOT impact the values on the underlying system design.
In the case of AWS- or Azure-based deployment runs, the CPU, RAM, and Networks are considered as a minimum and a set of choices will be presented. Each choice is a family and a type selection. Each family has a particular inclination (network speed, I/O speed, compute power), and type (number of CPUs, RAM, Boot Disk, Networks), which can vary in cost significantly. Be aware not all families are avaiable in GOV regions.
Edit RAM, CPU, and Boot Disk on a Deployed VM
You can change the RAM, CPU, and Boot Disk on a VM that is part of an existing run in the RESERVED state (not during the deployment process). To do this:
- Click on the Run page
- Click on the host that you would like to resize
- Click Configure and adjust to the required values. For AWS and Azure, select family then type. See Launch information section above.
- Click Save
- Click OK on the pop-up; keep in mind your system will automatically reboot to pick up the changes
